Backing up your database and storing it on your local device is absolutely crucial and gives you the option to reinstate all your data in a matter of minutes.
This backup utility is a one click operation in your ECT admin that saves a zipped export of your database in a secure directory on the server. Backup files are time stamped and are available to download and save to your local machine from within the ECT admin.
Earlier backups can also be deleted from within your ECT admin. This is an addon and not overwritten by updaters.
